What was the clients question? The managers are all grown from the staff or have been working for other hotels. Some of them have formal training in the hotel business or in management as such. In what way can SYNACT help to upgrade the quality of the management? Can SYNACT help to define the needs of the management in the local Indonesian situation taking into account the specific Indonesian culture. |
How did we answer the brief? SYNACT made a program focusing on the different aspects of managing a hotel. Short interventions were made on each topic. This series of sessions were mere appetisers. The training was defined as an inventory of the problems, people and functions in the hotel. Theory and practical skills were both built in. Due to the geographical distance it was not possible to do a lot of interviews and research on location before defining the program. |
|
What is the result? The first training sessions have been done in July/August 1997. During and after the sessions it became clear that not all managers were on the right position. Some have changed places, one left. During the personal interviews that followed the sessions, personal requests for follow-up training were formulated. The management looked in a different way at their business. They showed eagerness to learn more and to better define what their needs are and so improve their results. Follow-up training will follow next year. |
